Only in Jeans

This dude has never let me down. Whether it is on production or a dj set... Jason kills it every time. I heard this track earlier today and had to post it. It was a genius idea with impeccable execution.

Freakin Flows

In my back-pack era, Binary Star was by far my favorite underground hip hop group of all time. Their debut effort, Waterworld was produced on a $500 budget and released in 1999, under the label Terrorist Records. An extensive tour of Michigan followed, as both members of the duo were on parole and were not permitted to leave the state. Binary Star then switched to Subterraneous Records and released Masters of the Universe, named for a track on the album. This album was essentially just a remixed version of Waterworld, but garnered far more attention, as the album sold 20,000 copies, However, the pair were not getting along particularly well, and, citing creative differences,Binary Star was discontinued.

White Town - Your Woman

I love that every time I play this track out someone comes up to me to ask me the song name or who the artist is. It takes me right back to senior year of high school. Mix this with Space, "Female of the Species", and late 90's Zen is achieved. (I will post that Space track in the near future... promise)

We Likes

This was one of my first attempts at making a bmore style tune and was released on SES Records a few years back. One part of the track that I get a lot of positive feeback on are the keys of which I sampled the keys from Cricco Castelli's "Life is Changing" (which is sampled from The Crusaders "My Lady". Reason being that I was trying to include a bit of the house era that I grew up on into the motif of the track. It came together aight.

Empire of the Sun - We are the People

This track has been out for almost a year, but I don't ever hear it get much play in the city. Only recently have I had people ask me about this tune when out at the club. So, because of that, I am posting two of my favorite remixes of "We are the People".

Beni

Beni is the definition of "killin' it". That is all that really needs to be said. My duder Pr3-Frosh was the one who brought this cat to my attention and got me interested in his tracks and remixes.

Beni started in the industry with outfit "The Bang Gang Djs" as DJ Damage, beni later formed Riot in Belgium with Joel Dickson of "Cut Copy". Now he is doin' the damn thang on the solo tip and is catching some serious attention.

Collie Buddz

It is quite nice to see a gringo so excepted as a true artist in the reggae community. Snow tried it, with a little success (Don't act like you didn't rock out to "Informer" when you were young), but was quickly viewd as a joke by the majority. (Except for in Canada where he released many hit albums)

I first heard Collie Buddz when his hit track "Come Around" was catching big fame on the radio and various media outlets a few years back. His island dialect made it impossible to recognize he was of the chalky persuasion and the fact that this boy could not only toast / rap, but could also sing amazingly as well. I started to seek out other songs of his and quickly came to find that this dude has a gift for putting out the hits. I have uploaded a few of my favorites for you.

Yo La Tengo - Green Arrow

One of my first roommates my freshman year of college was a huge Yo La Tengo fan... A quiet / sort of nerdy guy, Liam. Kind of a weird duder, but he did teach me how to grow mushrooms indoors, so I guess I am forever in his debt.

At that point in life, I was unfamiliar with Yo La Tengo, but when I heard this song, it felt very familiar to me. It can be difficult to break down exactly what it is about a certain piece of music that truly reaches you, but I guess that is just part of the joys of relating to music.

This is very easily one of the most beautiful songs ever composed.

This Laidback Luke remix of the classic Paul Johnson track is rather unforgiving. Guaranteed to straight destroy a dance floor. Use at the appropriate time.

Starks & Nacey - Summer Madness

Message boards can be good for some things, like finding new tracks. Found this in a post on the Low Bee board. I am not too familiar with said Starks & Nacey, but this house cut is really fun... maybe big fun? I wish I had this one for the street fests that have just passed.

William Bell - I Forgot to be Your Lover

Early in life, William Bell had thought to become a doctor. Singing was just a relaxing pastime reserved for social gatherings. But friends convinced him to try his hand at entertaining and he and his group won second prize at the annual Mid-South Talent Contest of Memphis, Tennessee. The prize was a recording contract with Stax Records.

William Bell’s talents as an entertainer do not stop at singing. He is also an accomplished songwriter on his own and in collaboration with other composers. “I write either from a personal experience, an observation, or I just take a particular situation. My very first song was written from a personal experience and I find, looking back over a lot of tunes I’ve written, that listeners can identify with them better if they are on a personal basis.”
