Life is Changing

There are certain tracks that can define an era of experience for someone or a group of people, and this happens to be one of them. This track came out in 1998 which was the year that I had moved to Chicago to go to Columbia College. One of my big deciding factors for going to Columbia was that I would get to live in a great city which had an amazing underground EDM scene. I remember going out and hearing this at every party that I had went to. It was easy to recognize the track as it had that amazing Crusaders sample from the tune "My Lady." It is difficult to pull off an upbeat tune that does not come off as cheesy in anyway, but this track shows that it is very much possible.

Beautiful But Weird

I found this track while searching for tunes today. The title holds true as it is both beautiful and weird. In my humble opinion, the Clouded Vision remix seems to be the best one out of them all. I am diggin on the sombre disco feel. The synth pad that comes in at 1:40 is just plain awesome. Someone should use this in a movie score.

ABC - The Look of Love

I was watching tv last night and found this song on a Payless commercial. I did not remember it, but my music encyclopedia wife was right there to help guide me and find the tune online. This track was recorded in 1982 and came off of the album, "The Lexicon of Love". They released the tune as a single in 4 parts. The first being the regular, the second being an instrumental, the third being a vocal mix, and the fourth being a short acoustic instrumental style. If you get a chance, check out the music video as it is a lot of fun.

Inner City Club

Dave Nada is easily the most bad-ass Ecuadorian that I have had the privilege of knowing. He has been a staple in the club scene for quite sometime and has always rocked it here in the big windy. Ayres just posted this gem up today and it brought me back many many years. If you grew up in the party / EDM scene, then I think that you can appreciate this.

The Heavy

I came across this group the other day on the radio and instantly fell in love with their sound. They recently released their second full album, "The House That Dirt Built" which has been a great listen. Below I posted up my two favorite tracks off of that album. Their sound is a mix of indie rock, soul, funk, reggae, downtempo, and more. I am definitely diggin' on the diversity of tunes on the latest album.

Dance Wit' Me

In the year of our lord '82 the one like Rick James bestowed upon us this holy of holies. Released on Gordy Records (Mowtown Records) this album is a shining beacon of the word "Funk." If you have not yet, do take a listen. I have added my favorite cut off of the album, "Dance Wit' Me"

Chugar

Just finished this disco / house / r&b remix. Just about all of the parts of the track (excluding the synth bass) came from the original, "Suga Suga" by Baby Bash.

Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing

I was lucky to catch the end of this track on the radio the other day as I had completely forgotten about this tune. Released in 1988 as the lead single of off the album, "Introspective", the track was the last song from the duo to make it within the top 20 Billboard charts. This track was inspired by Latin Pop music and the producer of the track had done a lot of work with various freestyle groups. It was difficult for many Pet Shop Boys fans to accept the new sound which is why it did not receive as much love as it should. Tis a shame as it is a mean dance tune.
