After missing out on the festival last year, I'm glad to be heading back to Detroit tonight for Movement! There is too much cool stuff to list, but one party you should definitely check out is this.

I'm extremely excited to be on an event with James Zabiela. This dude is a beast on the decks and has innovated tricks that other DJ's copy. He really utilizes all the realms of fx and tricks you can possibly do with CDJ's and FX processors.

I promise to throw down a nasty set as well!

It has been a while since I have been able to post. Life has been hectic with preparing for the Red Bull Thre3style DJ battle along with moving into a new apartment and being on tour with Dani Deahl for JFR. I wanted to post up that I will be at Cobra Lounge tomorrow night for Zombies vs Skeletons playing an extended set. This means you should be there with bells on and such.

I've been rocking the jawn "THE HERO" for almost a year now and it still has not yet gotten old to me. There are many dubstep remixes of The Legend of Zelda's theme song, but this is by far the most proper one I've heard.

Nostalgia is from Minneapolis (Midwest Represent) and seems to have a solid grasp on the dub game. I'm looking forward to hearing some new work from him.

Last night I got to rock my first solo night at Club Fever in South Bend, IN and I had a blast! This club comes correct with their sound, lighting, visuals and overall vibe. I have played there 3 times this past month and was able to open up for legends DJ Funk, Bad Boy Bill, and The Crystal Method. If you live in the Chicago / IN area, you should definitely make it out to check out one of these shows. I see that they are even bringing in The Wailers on March 25th.

New Hot Dog Release // EchoDroides

EchoDroides is a collaboration between Chicago natives Frank De La Mora & Trancid (Miguel Martin). Their sound is synthpop with a flavor of Italo and NuDisco and all around sexiness. Their music’s influences come largely from geniuses like Giorgio Moroder, Vince Clarke, Alexander Robotnik and Telex and the Telescopic EP carries on that classic sound infused with modern Nu Disco elements.

The two have been good friends for a long time, both being involved in the music scene for many years in their respective ways. Frank is an accomplished musician & songwriter, having played keyboards on Platinum recording artist, Disturbed’s debut album and heading a couple of bands, Echonine & The Guardians. Miguel is a DJ having traveled all over the country and various spots around the world as part of Dark Wave Disco and performed at Lollapalooza in 2009. He has played alongside countless artists such as Primal Scream, Ladytron, Felix Da Housecat, Cut Copy and many more throughout the years.

Frank and Miguel had always talked about working together on music, but their conflicting schedules prevented it from happening. Finally in the spring of 2011 they were able to get together and started working on some remixes for California’s “The New Division” and Chicago’s “Comasoft”. After the remix project they decided to take a crack at their first original production. The end result was a completed EP, titled Telescopic, which was picked up by Hot Dog Records and drops online on March 7th.

The Jones Girls was a 70's Detroit based, R & B trio. They had a couple minor hits in the late 70's/early 80's; however, their songs saw major success when covered by others. Nights Over Egypt is definitely my fave! Thanks to John for breaking me off with the Incognito version!

I posted up the original "Nantes" about six months back. Even though the track had been out for a while, I only found the "Fredo & Thang" Disco Remix about 4 months ago and included it on my "Chicago After Hours Vol. 2" mix.

This remix really holds true to the original which is what I absolutely love about it. Fredo & Thang did a great job of tastefully incorporating drums to give it a nice 4/4 dance music structure and really worked on a proper build before you hear any vocal.

I was first introduced to this Ghost Mutt from the homey Dom Brown. Needless to say Dom knows me quite well as I was blown away by the cut "Sweat Mode". With a little research I found that dude was releasing a new album which samples 4 Keith Sweat tracks tweaked in his style of UK Bass, House, and Funk. I live this trend of 90's R&B being reworked / glitched out, and brought back to the dance floor. Hope to hear more like it.

This week we celebrate the birth of my dear friend and legendary DJ/Producer, Paul Johnson. For most, this name needs no explaining, but for those who do, where do I begin... Paul is one of thee biggest names in the iconic Chicago House music scene of the 90s. He is the first name mentioned in Daft Punk's "Teachers" track! Ok?! Nuff said!!

One of my New Year's resolutions was to get serious about this blogging thing. I've come to the conclusion that the only way this is going to happen is if I keep these as short and sweet as possible. I'll be sharing two 4Hero tracks with you to start your New Year right. 4Hero is a production duo that consists of 2 of the original UK Junglist/Drum & Bassists. In 2007, they released a full length Neo Soul/Jazz album aptly named "Playing With The Changes."

I'm sure by now you have noticed I have been cranking out the mixes as of late. For this most recent mix I decided to go against the after hours series and make a mix for music that I play at peak time in the club. The tracks I selected were tunes that I rocked the hell out of in the year of 2011, so it could almost even be consider a "best of" mix. I first found them with an album called "John Hughes Beat" which contained a few tracks that sounded as if they were in a John Hughes movie. This track below is a shining example of what I'm talking about; even though this track was not on that album. This track was from the group Rational Youth and was originally released in 1982.

This is for those who have not yet had the privilege to come across this track this past summer / fall season. SBTRKT just played a sold out show here at the Bottom Lounge and I heard it was quite an amazing performance.

This is a first of a new monthly loft party series presented by HOT DOG RECORDS. For this introduction party we booked 13 of our homies to come out and rock the spot. December will have locals, plus a special Headlining guest!

The night is about pushing quality dance music and quality underground music that you may not get to hear at the club. We will not let the radio or mainstream society dictate what gets played. The dj is taking his / her role back in providing music of substance. It's time for Chicago to take back its underground sound and these parties are only the beginning of what's in store.
